What are hand tools?
Hand tools are instruments used to carry out work with the use of the hand as a means of operations. In the industrial area hand tools are used extensively to carry out work of all short and forms.
Why use hand tools?
Hand tools are used for four main reasons which are as follows:
- Easy to operate:- hand tools are easy to operate especially when compared to more complex machines
- Easy to carry around :- hand tools by design and definition are operated with the hand and must be maneuvered the hand. It is for this reason that hand tools are easy to carry around
- Cheap :- hand tools in general are cheaper than machines
- Quality of work :- hand tools in general produce quality work in most instances
How can we group hand tools ?
There are 6 basic groups of hand tools which is done based on the operations that the tool is used to carry out. these basic groups are
- Cutting / boring tools
- Holding and supporting tools
- Marking, measuring, and layout tools
- Percussion tools
- Shaping and turning tools
- Miscellaneous
